Below is a copy of the letter sent from HRH Prince Charles Colonel in Chief of the Parachute Regiment to Btn giving his support to the men of D Coy who will be attempting to set a new world record when they do this years London marathon in full kit. This is to raise money to help any members of the Btn that incur injuries during the up and coming tours of Afghanistan or any other place they may be sent, also the British Legion. As we're only too aware service men and women including their families do not get the support they should do after receiving injuries during conflicts. Once again the Btn has asked the reunion club for our assistance in making this latest appeal a success. I will be sending out sponsorship forms along with a copy of the letter below to every one on the mailing list, just print off as many as you feel you will need and return with all money collected to the address provided. Let us once again show what the club is about and try and make this appeal a success . All donations will be greatly appreciated, the Reunion Club will continue with this project until the Battalion leaves for it’s next tour of duty overseas.
2 Para London Marathon
I'm very pleased to be able to announce that following the request from battalion to the cub for any assistance we could provide in raising funds to support the men of D Coy who did the London Marathon to raise money for the battalion and the Royal British Legion that once again it was a big success. The response from you the members to the request was fantastic and a cheque for £1800 was posted off to the OC D Coy Maj. Mike Shervington. Below is the letter of thanks he sent to you the club members, to say they were pleased would be a great understatment!!
A very big thank you goes out to all that helped. The Committee.
Letter of thanks from Battalion
Below is the photo of the team from D Coy who successfully completed the London marathon. As you can see they're carrying full kit, apart from weapons, which were of course left out for security reasons. This photo was framed and a plaque thanking the club for it's efforts in raising the money was attached. Accompanying this is the letter of thanks to the reunion club from the Company Commander Major Mike Shervington.
